Glencoe’s committee of the whole on June 18 heard the Plan Commission’s 2025 report and was told the commission will move a draft plan-development ordinance through a multi-step public process.
The Plan Commission chair summarized the commission’s 2025 work on exterior appearance reviews, the multi-month library expansion review and early drafting of a plan-development ordinance "that will start with the village board this evening, go through the zoning commission and back to the village board," the chair said.
Commissioners emphasized that the draft ordinance implements recommendations from the comprehensive plan and will address streetscape, parking and where varied housing types may be allowed. The commission indicated the zoning-commission stage will include public hearings and likely require multi-month, detailed review.
Separately, a village staff speaker told trustees the village is completing a space-needs analysis for the public works department, which staff will present later this year as an initial step in studying options to relocate the public works garage away from the central business district. The chair and commissioners described relocation as a long-term, developer-dependent project and said preliminary planning and community discussion would be needed before any formal steps.
No ordinance vote or formal direction to implement relocation was taken; the report outlined next process steps and scheduled the zoning-commission public hearing for the ordinance work in the coming month.
