The Glencoe committee of the whole on June 18 reviewed the Public Safety Commission’s 2025 annual report, which highlighted new hiring practices and department stability.
Judge S., who presented the report, said the commission met six times in 2025, updated rules to allow a continuous examination process for entry-level and promotional testing and interviewed 31 candidates. "Out of these 31 interviews, we hired three new public safety officers and we have one opening as of today," Judge S. said.
The commission noted a recent policy change allowing lateral officers with at least two years’ prior service elsewhere to apply; that change and the continuous exam were described as measures to improve flexibility in recruiting. The presenter said consultants — including legal counsel, a polygraph examiner and medical providers — supported the physical and background examinations for candidates.
The report also said the commission did not hear disciplinary charges against any public safety officer in 2025, which the presenter described as a sign of department strength.
No formal action or vote on policy changes was taken at the committee meeting. The presentation concluded with trustees thanking the commission for its work; no follow-up schedule was announced during the session.
