Town of Pines council approves CCMG road contracts, tree work and October claims

Clerk-Treasurer Shelby Lowe told the council she has not yet heard back from Tina about the 2025 budget and presented two contracted items related to County Community Map Grant (CCMG) work with Abormache: a lump-sum $4,000 assistance payment and a separate road-review contract for up to $4,000. Janice Lowe moved to approve each contract, Vicki Kuzio seconded, and each motion carried 3-0 with Janice, Vicki and James Prast voting yes.
The council also voted to approve two separate tree-service jobs from Jons Tree Service — one for $2,700 and another for $4,150 — after Vicki Kuzio flagged a split, dangerous tree on Maple Street and suggested seeking a standing contract for recurring tree work. James Prast called the vote and all members approved both items 3-0.
Council approved payment of October 2024 claims after a motion by Janice Lowe and second by Vicki Kuzio; the motion carried 3-0. Shelby said the town received payment for the 2024 CCMG work and will forward funds to contractor Rieth Riley once the check clears to formally close the 2024 CCMG project.
James Prast provided an overview of streets under consideration for 2025, listing several segments (including Fern; Alabama to 2nd; Johns Street and portions of Railroad Avenue) and noting Idaho will not be done this year. Council members said Railroad Avenue is a candidate for a fuller repair in a subsequent year.
Why this matters: the approved short-term contracts authorize town staff to proceed with CCMG-related assistance and a targeted review of roads that support planning and budgeting for next year’s street projects.
