Council approves READI project payments, appoints Don Gray to the BZA and schedules special meeting on vacancy

At its Oct. 20 meeting the Town of Thorntown Council reviewed invoices for the Oddfellows Building work under the READI grant and approved payment of the listed claims, with remaining project costs to be covered from town ARPA funds after the READI grant cap was reached.
Clerk/Treasurer Aly Hickman distributed a spreadsheet showing invoices and local expenses; Council President Dave Williams and other members discussed the funding. Council Member Bruce Burtner moved to allow Aly Hickman to pay the claims for the READI project; Randy Bruder seconded the motion and the council voted 4-0 in favor.
Williams announced he had appointed Don Gray to the town Board of Zoning Appeals to satisfy the requirement that an APC member serve on the BZA; Williams said appointed members will be sworn in prior to their first meeting. He also noted that three additional appointments are still required to complete BZA formation.
The council confirmed that citizen John Riggen is interested in filling a Town Council vacancy and scheduled a special public meeting for interviews on Nov. 3, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at Thorntown Town Hall.
