Union City council approves pension payment, subdivision, meeting schedule and kayak launch easement

At its Aug. 13 meeting, the Union City Borough Council approved several administrative and land-use items: the borough’s 2025 minimum municipal obligation (MMO) for non-uniform pensions of $48,029 (police MMO $0), a subdivision combining portions of 92 West High Street with 88 and 90 West High Street, a new regular meeting schedule through April 2025 and an easement with the American Legion to install and maintain a kayak and canoe launch along French Creek.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells reported the 2025 MMO figures and Councilor Matt Joyce moved approval of the MMO; Councilor Kerns seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Erie County Planning approved the subdivision maps for 92 West High; council approval allows signatures to finalize the record combining parcels. Council also agreed to change regular council meetings to the first and third Monday of each month at 6:30 PM from September through April; the next meeting was set for Aug. 27, 2024 and, because of Labor Day, Sept. 16, 2024.
Solicitor Tim Wachter is drawing an easement with the American Legion for a kayak/canoe launch at the ball field. The council approved a motion to permit the installation and maintenance of the launch using funds from the PA Fish and Boat Commission and the PA Environmental Council; the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 7:06 P.M.; a subsequent executive session ran until 7:52 P.M. to discuss personnel and a contract with no action taken there.
