Union City police chief reports festival coverage plans, policy updates and fundraising figures

Police Chief David Pernice updated the Union City Borough Council on June 25 about upcoming festival coverage, internal policy work and neighboring departments' fundraising totals.
Chief Pernice said he contacted Erie County detectives, who will fund overtime and provide two to three officers to augment coverage at the French Creek Festival. He said he has also requested increased coverage from Corry PSP but had not yet received a response.
The chief reported that nearby departments' golf scrambles raised approximately $16,000 in Corry and between $18,000 and $20,000 in Warren; he said he would check with the Union City Country Club to learn local fundraising totals. Pernice said he is completing a background check required by Civil Service rules and expects to have it finished by July 5.
On departmental procedures, Pernice said he has been updating policies in Lexipol and removing policies no longer needed; he is awaiting solicitor review before finalizing pending documents.
Mayor Robert Wolf acknowledged Chief Pernice and Officer Shelly for traffic enforcement and said the department has received positive feedback.
