Superintendent highlights school events, calendar changes and announces specialized director’s departure

He described an emerging partnership with the YMCA called Water Wise, a water-safety program intended for second graders; district staff and elementary principals discussed the program and the superintendent said it would be presented to the committee once details are finalized.
Dr. Marcus also noted several recent school events — art shows, fun days, field activities, and middle- and high-school trips — and highlighted work between high-school students and preschoolers in culinary programs.
In staffing news, Dr. Marcus announced that the district’s specialized director, Dr. Gadino, will accept a position in another district and her last day will be June 30. The superintendent said the district will appoint an acting director for the summer and start a search for a permanent replacement.
Dr. Marcus closed by thanking staff and families for supporting a grieving Duval family after a recent loss and by encouraging continued focus on student-centered work.
