Stormwater inventory nears completion in Duck Creek; BF&S to expand assessments in 2026

Phil Gralik updated the board on the multi-year stormwater inventory at the Jan. 27 meeting. He reported the Duck Creek watershed inventory is nearly complete with 1,357 of 1,397 structures inventoried; staff identified 39 buried structures and created 11 new outfalls. In the Deep River–Little Calumet area, crews inventoried 124 of 1,260 structures and found 21 buried structures; in the Deep River–Lake George watershed, 466 of 2,578 structures were inventoried with 29 buried structures and 10 new outfalls created.
Gralik said staff developed an initial aerial GIS layer for open-channel assessments that flags blocked drainage channels, pavement crossings with and without culverts, open drainage channels and drainage easements. A QA/QC framework was established to ensure data accuracy. BF&S will continue system assessments in Duck Creek in 2026, begin inventory in the U.S. Highway 30 corridor, integrate new condition-assessment data and update stormwater project cost estimates and priorities.
The inventory findings will inform prioritization of capital and maintenance work and the development of cost estimates for future stormwater projects; staff and BF&S will present updated priorities and cost estimates as they become available.
