Board notes $500 incentive for invasive-species removal, asks staff to update communications

At the May 14 meeting the board was told the city has approved an increase in the invasive-species removal incentive to $500. Staff said two prior applicants would now benefit from the higher amount and that communications (including a short video) will be updated to reflect the new figure.
"Invasive trade in program, we've got the green light to up our incentive to $500, which is great," staff said. Board members endorsed updating the city's outreach and suggested adding guidance to help residents choose appropriate native replacements and avoid removing native species mistakenly identified as invasives.
Staff proposed yard signage, QR codes linking to plant lists and guidance, and a mailing to properties immediately adjacent to planned sites. The board directed staff to prepare permanent sign language for a future agenda packet and to coordinate outreach through the Connect email and an open-house format for residents who want to ask questions in person.
Members also discussed partnering with nearby native-plant nurseries and volunteer groups to provide education on species selection. The board did not vote on new policy language; the $500 incentive amount was presented as a staff announcement and staff will publish the revised messaging and materials.
