Committee reports: bond authorization, SAU 90 emergency meeting, and planning updates discussed

At the June 16 Hampton Budget Committee meeting, members delivered brief committee reports that included a bond authorization, a workers’ compensation return and concerns from the local school district.

Amy Hansen, the Select Board alternate representative to the Budget Committee, said the Select Board accepted funds from SHEA for stormwater management regulation work and received a $52,136 workers’ compensation return from Primex. Hansen also reported that the Select Board authorized a bond for the Ross/Kentville/Charles project in the amount of $1,060,000. Hansen noted only one respondent submitted to the town’s re-valuation RFP.

Molly McCoy St. Jean, the SAU 90 representative, said the school district will hold an emergency meeting to consider options for using retainage funds before they are lost and warned that several state bills could dramatically affect the school’s budget and local taxes.

Other committee reports included a Master Plan Implementation Committee effort to create a tracking form for recommended action items, discussion of coastal-hazards topics at the Coastal Hazards & Adaptation Team meeting, and an update that the Capital Improvement Plan will reconvene in July and September to review departmental requests.

Chair Anne Marie Galanis said she will coordinate facility tours with department heads for late summer or early fall and will invite Superintendent Costa and Mariah Curtis to the committee’s September meeting. The committee’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15.
