Selectmen approve burial sub-registrars, seasonal hires and COA alternate; authorize deputy-registrar training

Chair Susan McFarland said the board reviewed a May 1 letter from Lauren Griffin and moved to appoint Thomas Portelance, Robert Hanson and Bret Fensley as sub-registrars authorized to issue burial permits, with terms extended through Jan. 2, 2028. The motion, made by Anthony Bratz and seconded by Louise Concodello, carried unanimously.
The board also approved five seasonal hires for Parks and Recreation after Ray Bull presented the candidates and their planned roles. Selectman Anthony Bratz moved to approve the hires; the motion passed unanimously.
In other personnel business, the board appointed Michele Kacy as an alternate to the Council on Aging. John Rizza moved the appointment; Anthony Bratz seconded and the motion carried.
Finally, Ms. McFarland read a request from Michele Kacy asking the town to fund training. The board authorized up to 10 hours of training per deputy registrar for the Total Vote System at $20 per hour for two deputies, not to exceed $400 total, to be charged to the training budget line. The board added that the funding authorization is contingent on the sum not exceeding $400.
The board's unanimous votes on these routine personnel and appointment items mean the town will proceed with the newly authorized sub-registrars and seasonal staff, and the COA will have its newly appointed alternate in place.
