Marlborough students advance to state Invention Convention; STEAM teacher outlines first-year program

During Celebrations at the May 14 meeting, Mary Cochefski and Michaela Dehm introduced second‑grade students Alexandria Wyberanec and Olivia Mikulak, who will receive awards at the state Invention Convention. The students presented their inventions to the board.
Kelly Mirando, the district STEAM teacher, provided an overview of the program’s first year, describing STEAM as an integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math designed to encourage students to develop creative solutions to real-world problems. Board members approved moving the STEAM presentation earlier on the agenda so the students could present during Celebrations.
Former student and current STEAM teacher Dan Mikulak offered public comment thanking Superintendent Hageman for her contributions and praising the district’s STEAM offerings. The board heard the presentation and acknowledged the student achievements.
