The Upton Select Board voted unanimously March 24 to approve a Men’s Club application for a one‑day liquor license for its fifth annual cornhole tournament at Blackstone Valley Tech, scheduled for July 11, 2026.
Matt Ronzio of the Men’s Club presented the request, saying the event will be held on the back baseball field with onsite food service. To manage alcohol, the club will install orange fencing and operate a single entrance for ID checks and wristbands. Ronzio said Blackstone Valley Tech administration, including Anthony Steele and the School Committee, have approved the plan and that the event follows the club’s prior procedures.
Chief Palmieri will provide a police detail, the board was told. Member Maureen Dwinnell moved to approve the application “contingent on compliance with M.G.L. c.138, §14 and with all provisions of the Town of Upton’s One‑Day Liquor License Policy,” including nonprofit documentation, server training certificates and local supplier requirements. Chair Laura Hebb seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The event is timed to take place immediately after the town fireworks on July 11. Conditions of approval require adherence to the town’s one‑day license policy and state law.
