Interim city manager Jeremiah Glissen delivered a staff report summarizing ongoing capital and public‑realm projects across the historic district. Highlights included activation of a downtown maintenance contract to improve weekly landscaping; railroad tie replacement and ballast work near Shade Bridge; design progress on downtown revitalization (sidewalk replacement, lighting and ADA improvements); and Alachua Street stormwater work with vault removal planned. Glissen also noted a $900,000 railroad crossing/repair item will be before the city commission next week.
Glissen said the downtown revitalization design is about 80% complete and that the design team will preserve brick crosswalks and other historic materials where feasible while addressing ADA limitations. He described North 7th Street curb and sidewalk work under design to create additional on‑street parking, pending wetlands delineation results. The Peck Center rehabilitation — a grant funded project — is roughly 80% complete and expected to finish following a change order.
Board members thanked staff for the quarterly update and asked staff to continue coordinating with Main Street and other stakeholders on materials and downtown character.
