Knox County Council approves $250,000 transfer to statewide 911 fund and several budget moves

The Knox County Council approved several budget transfers and appropriations at its April 14 meeting in Vincennes, including a $250,000 move into the county’s statewide 911 account.
On a 7-0 vote, the council approved Director Tresa Baize’s request to transfer $250,000 from fund 1170 (LIT Public Safety — County Share) to fund 1222 (Statewide 911). The transfer was moved by Rich Chattin and seconded by Jon Hillenbrand.
Council members also approved a $5,696 additional appropriation from the Cumulative Bridge fund (1135) for work on Bridge 243 (Mays Road). Minutes note that INDOT will reimburse the county for that expense; the motion was moved by Rich Chattin and seconded by Jon Hillenbrand and passed 7-0.
A transfer of $701.73 within the Veterans Treatment Court program fund (1237-000-10-3200) was approved for operating supplies, membership/dues and outreach/printing lines after Coordinator Kaylee Steel presented the request. The motion was moved by Rich Chattin and seconded by Kevin Meyer and passed 7-0.
The council also reviewed the Knox County Sheriff commissary first-quarter report and recorded a 7-0 motion acknowledging that review. No purchase motion for rifles (transfer from Fund 1130 to Weapon and Ammo) was carried forward; the minutes list that request as removed.
The Family Recovery Court state grant for Knox Superior Court I was accepted by the council with a budget amendment that included a salary line for Coordinator Jeanne Porter. Auditor First Deputy Julie Lancaster presented the grant budget; the council approved the grant acceptance and the salary amendment 7-0 (moved by Rich Chattin, seconded by Kevin Meyer). The minutes list the overall grant at $60,000 and provide line-item amounts for salary and program supplies.
All recorded motions were unanimous; recorded movers and seconders appear in the minutes for each motion. The council set its next meeting for May 12, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Vincennes City Hall.
