County staff presented the grant application and told commissioners the total request of $11,475.38 reflects an increase tied to last year’s reappraisal. "Coming from Colorado Parks and Wildlife," the staff member said when describing the funding source. The staff member also noted the county’s valuation rise compared with the prior year.
Commissioners discussed the mechanics of reappraisal and its effect on grant figures, noting the county uses 10-year averages for valuations. One commissioner said, "I feel like it's all backwards because our farmers are getting taxed more," linking higher property valuations and tax pressure on agricultural residents during drought periods.
A commissioner moved to approve the grant, another seconded, and the board voted in favor with three affirmative votes recorded. Staff confirmed the paperwork would be submitted that day and said the approved documentation would be emailed to commissioners.
The meeting also approved the agenda and routine expenditures and scheduled an afternoon workshop to review Title III funds. The board then moved to adjourn and proceed to planned workshops.
