Lower Pottsgrove updates bridge projects, approves $6,050 Snell Road change order

Township Manager Edward C. Wagner told the Lower Pottsgrove Board of Commissioners that part of South Sanatoga Road will be closed from 7 a.m. March 10 through 5 p.m. March 12 so crews can set new beams for work related to the Route 422 project, and that advance warning signs and website and social-media notices will be posted.
Wagner said he has informed quarry operators so trucks can be rerouted and asked that the quarry not use the township park as a shortcut. On the Sunnybrook Bridge, Wagner said the contract for repair of the bridge wall and the western stone arch is being finalized and that he will provide updates as they become available.
On the Snell Road Bridge, Wagner said removal of the decking revealed that two abutments must be cut down to meet PennDOT comments and that these structural details were not evident when the project was bid. "When the project was bid, not all structural drawings were available," Wagner explained. Commissioner William Keohane moved to approve Change Order #1 in the amount of $6,050 to cover the work; Commissioner Earl E. Swavely seconded and the board approved the change order unanimously, 5-0.
Wagner also updated the board on the renovation at 1963 E. High Street. He said Balton Construction has laid out the work and plans to begin framing on March 10. The board was told the project received a $150,000 credit for eliminating millwork and a $14,000 credit for the transfer switch; a generator costing about $92,000 has been ordered with a 24-to-26-week delivery window. Wagner said cameras are ready to order and AV equipment quotes are under review.
Commissioners did not ask for further delay on any of the items; the board approved the Snell Road change order and asked Wagner to continue providing status updates at future meetings.
