Waynesboro commission approves minutes, hears updates on downtown restroom enclosure and restoration work

At its Jan. 28 meeting the Waynesboro Historic Preservation Commission approved the previous meeting's minutes, heard staff updates that the downtown restroom enclosure fence is installed pending a gate, learned restoration at 531 S. Liberty Street is paused after Hurricane Helene, and noted staff-approved roof repairs at two downtown addresses.
The Waynesboro Historic Preservation Commission approved the minutes from its prior meeting and received several staff updates at its Jan. 28 session.
Steve Nix moved to approve the minutes; Kim Arrington seconded and the motion was recorded as approved. Don Lively, the city staff member listed for the commission, reported that the stationary fence portion of the enclosure for the downtown restroom at 103 W. 6th Street has been installed and that a gate will be installed after the concrete cures. Lively also said work on the building at 531 S. Liberty Street began before it was damaged by Hurricane Helene and that no further work has occurred since the storm.
Under new business, Lively reported two staff-approved Certificates of Appropriateness: 24-COA-SA-12 for 220 E. 6th Street (the building housing DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home) and 24-COA-SA-13 for 226 E. 6th Street. Both approvals were for replacing damaged roofs with metal roofs of the same color and were handled at the staff level.
Chair Tommy Powell moved to adjourn the meeting; the motion was seconded by Steve Nix and the meeting adjourned at 6:46 p.m.
