Mayor authorized to finalize agreement with Mr. Long as City Administrator after tie-breaking vote

Three councilmembers — Hill, Cullars and Mahoney — voted against the authorization, expressing concern about whether the candidate was fully qualified. The mayor declined to move the meeting into executive session to discuss the matter further.
Council members said the contract terms, including salary and other negotiated conditions, will be finalized and returned to the City Attorney for review before execution. The council did not set a salary in the motion; members indicated compensation and other terms will be handled as part of the contract negotiations.
What happens next: The City Attorney will review the proposed agreement and the mayor may execute the contract after legal approval. Any final terms or contract enactment will be reported at a future council meeting.
