At a public hearing on April 27, 2026, the Budget Committee approved the Klamath County Drainage Service District budget and the imposition of the annual assessment. Budget Committee Chair Ashley Trushell opened the hearing and Treasurer Vickie Noel read the district’s budget message.
Public Works' Jeremy Morris described district operations, noting maintenance of backbone ditches and roughly 15 miles of urban canals with a planned one-mile-per-year sediment-removal cycle. Morris said the district currently charges $2 per tax lot annually regardless of parcel size and that staff plan to review the master plan and consider adjusting fees to better align residential and commercial runoff responsibilities.
Commissioner Minty moved to approve the Drainage Service District budget; Ashley Trushell seconded. Commissioner DeGroot voted opposed, and the motion passed with the remaining members in favor. The same vote pattern approved the imposition of the assessment. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
Public Works intends to present a master plan update to the Board that could recommend changes to the fee structure, such as reducing residential fees while increasing commercial assessments to reflect runoff differences. The hearing was adjourned after the votes.
