Pottstown Regional Public Library plans cuts to hours and services; Lower Pottsgrove supplies nearly a quarter of patrons

Angela Brown, executive director of the Pottstown Regional Public Library, told the Lower Pottsgrove Board of Commissioners on Nov. 4 that the library is facing budget pressure and plans a series of service reductions for 2025. Brown said patrons have "saved over $1 million so far this year" by using library resources and that 23.1% of the library's patrons are from Lower Pottsgrove.
To lower expenses, Brown said the library will reduce janitorial services, cut spending on materials and supplies, scale back items available through Hoopla, reduce part-time staff hours, and cut service hours by eight hours per week; she encouraged residents to participate in an hours-survey to inform decisions. Brown noted a Nov. 2 Passport Fair raised $1,600 in revenue toward operations.
The board did not vote on library funding Nov. 4 but thanked the library for regional services and acknowledged the impact of any hours or staffing reductions on township patrons.
