Colleton County Council voted unanimously on April 4, 2022, to rescind the county’s mask requirement for county buildings and to resume in‑person council meetings. County Administrator Kevin Griffin told council that state and federal guidance had been relaxed and that the county had received requests from citizens to lift the indoor mask policy.
Dr. Joseph Flowers moved to rescind the mask requirement; Councilman Gene Whetsell seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Councilman Art Williams said lifting the requirement should also coincide with returning to public, in‑person meetings.
Administrator Griffin noted the mask requirement had not been adopted by ordinance or resolution and that other local bodies, including the school board, were considering similar steps. Council directed staff to implement the operational changes needed to resume in‑person meetings.
The change takes immediate effect per the April 4 meeting record; no timetable for reinstatement was specified.
