DDA chair reports Sibley Avenue demolition, March 22 Firefly Fest and new entry‑way signs

Jill Rhodes, chair of Union Point’s Downtown Development Authority, updated the council on downtown activity at the Feb. 11 meeting. Rhodes said that the remains of the corner building on Sibley Avenue have been taken down and that the owner’s contractor is removing bricks and debris.
Rhodes said required DDA training for members has been scheduled for spring. She also detailed plans for Firefly Fest on March 22, which will coincide with the Ticket‑To‑Ride event supporting the Firefly Trail; Rhodes encouraged attendance and said more details will follow. She reported that the Union Point Highway/Lamb Avenue brick entry‑way signs are complete and that the DDA is reviewing lighting for those signs as well as additional signage for highway corridors and the industrial park.
The DDA update focused on recovery and promotion of the downtown corridor; Rhodes did not present a request requiring immediate council action during the Feb. 11 meeting.
