Pottstown Regional Public Library to cut hours; police and fire give routine monthly reports

At the Dec. 2 meeting, Angela Brown of the Pottstown Regional Public Library told Lower Pottsgrove commissioners the library will reduce hours by eight per week starting Jan. 1, 2025, as it seeks approval of a $725,000 operating budget. Brown said the library is accepting bids for a bookkeeper and for janitorial services to support operations.
Police Chief Richard Bell presented November 2024 activity: 1,570 calls for service; 148 traffic citations; 27 accident investigations; 26 reported criminal violations with 10 adult arrests; and department overtime of $4,557, of which $3,501.98 was reimbursed by grants tied to training and an Aggressive Driving Campaign. Chief Bell also said all officers completed Medical Marijuana Act training.
Fire Marshal Lew Babel provided the November fire report and warned that since the burn ban began last month there have been five fires tied to noncompliance; he said letters were issued to those individuals. Babel also announced community events including Sanatoga Fire Company's Spaghetti with Santa on Dec. 7 and Santa Runs on Dec. 21 and Dec. 22.
Public Works highlights (reported by Manager Edward C. Wagner from Shane Hosier’s report) included pothole patching, a sinkhole repair on Centennial Court, milling and base coat work on Hilltop Road, clearing trails and removal of 14 stumps at the municipal complex. Resident Tony Doyle suggested starting Public Works shifts later because conditions are dark at 6:00 a.m.; Manager Wagner replied crews currently "begin work at 6:30 A.M." and the Board thanked him for the comment.
