Michelle Grimm, who identified herself as representing Willow Lane, addressed the Downtown Development Authority with multiple requests to improve the downtown business district. She asked the board to 'spruce up' streets and sidewalks — particularly alleys — and to consider adding more handrails on Liberty Street to assist customers and visitors.
Grimm raised concern about an empty building at 627 Shadrack Street behind Willow Lane. Don Lively told the board the building is owned by Southern Bank after foreclosure; it was suggested that the City send a letter to Southern Bank about the property. Grimm also asked whether the dumpster behind her store could be repositioned and proposed adding a separate dumpster for recycling. She requested overhead parking signs to better direct visitors to side-street parking and reported ongoing problems with vagrants harassing people in the downtown area.
The minutes record these items as public comment and a suggestion by the board that City staff contact Southern Bank; no formal motion, vote or timetable for follow-up was recorded in these minutes.
