Union Point council adopts 6.377 millage rate, approves fire-department budget transfer

City Clerk Becky Cronic presented the Millage Rate Ordinance and the rate of 6.377; Council Member Sally Boswell moved to adopt the ordinance and Council Member Mary Mundy seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Cronic reminded residents that tax bills are mailed in December and due the following February. The adoption means the city will use a rate of 6.377 mills to calculate property-tax liabilities for the coming tax year.
During the same meeting the council approved a budget adjustment to address a shortfall in the Fire Department. Cronic said there were several fiscal-year 2025 adjustments to post and identified roughly $8,000 ("more or less") needed to cover firefighters’ dues, fees and utilities. Council Member Jim Scott moved to allow the city clerk to transfer available funds from the General Fund Public Safety department into the Fire Department budget; Council Member William Harris seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The council’s motions on the millage rate and the budget transfer were routine and unanimous; no roll-call vote totals were recorded in the minutes. The city’s next finance meeting to finalize the General Fund budget and review enterprise funds is scheduled for Sept. 23 at 4:30 p.m. at the Four Room Schoolhouse.
Clerk Cronic and the council did not specify the full budget line-item sources for the transfer beyond "available funds" in the Public Safety department; the clerk was authorized to make the adjustments without further council action.
