The Washington City Council on Nov. 12 unanimously approved the city’s proposed millage rate and moved forward on several personnel and administrative policies.
Mayor Bruce Bailey introduced the newly hired city administrator (name not given in the transcript). On a motion by Councilman Andy Anderson and a second by Councilman Maceo Mahoney, the council voted in favor of the millage rate in a unanimous roll call.
The council also approved a second reading of a charter amendment to create an elected-officials travel policy that will let staff draft a spending limit per councilmember. Councilman Nathaniel Cullars moved the second reading and Councilman Maceo Mahoney seconded; the measure passed unanimously.
Separately, council members authorized Mayor Bailey to sign paperwork for the Georgia Municipal Association retirement program now rather than waiting until January so employees’ retirement accounts will not be jeopardized. Councilman Mahoney moved the authorization and Councilman Cullars seconded; the vote was unanimous.
Council members discussed the City Personnel Policy during mayoral items and made adjustments to the agenda to allow further review. The council also directed the city administrator to find a location for a retreat for the mayor and council to discuss city business before the next meeting.
The meeting record does not include the city administrator’s name or any proposed millage rate figure.
