Lake City council approves developer variance, names splash pad for Diane Crews and sets community events

At its Sept. 19 meeting, the Lake City Council approved a variance for the Bowman Addition, accepted a clean water/sewer audit, fixed the dog park location, authorized removal of a Planning and Zoning member, renamed the splash pad to honor Diane Crews, and set fall community event dates; all motions passed 6-0.
The Lake City Council handled a range of routine and community-focused items at its Sept. 19 meeting.
Minutes and audit: The council approved the minutes of the Aug. 15, 2022 meeting and accepted the Water/Sewer Audit for the year ending May 31, 2022; the audit was reported complete with no findings. Both motions passed 6-0.
Developer variance and property actions: The council granted a variance for builder Barry Hale to reduce lot size in the last row of the Bowman Addition from 9,000 square feet to 8,000 square feet; the motion passed 6-0. Mayor Tate also updated the council on the property at 605 Maumelle, and the council directed the mayor to contact Arlon Woodruff to draw up a 10-foot easement relinquishing Prairie Street between Park and Mead streets.
Parks and community events: After discussion the council voted to locate the city dog park at the Old School Property by the new water tower. Council authorized the mayor to remove Robert Lowery from the Planning and Zoning Committee. The council also approved renaming the city’s splash pad to the “Diane Crews Memorial Splashpad” to recognize Diane Crews’ efforts to secure the facility. The fall citywide yard sale was set for Oct. 6–8, 2022, and Halloween will be observed Oct. 31, 2022.
Procedure: A motion to add the AT&T tower lease and Riverbend Park lift station to the agenda was approved at the start of the meeting. The meeting adjourned following the listed business.
Attribution: The actions were carried by motions initiated and seconded by councilmembers and recorded as unanimous votes (6-0); Mayor Cameron Tate presided and City Clerk Lisa Sitz was present to record minutes.
