Committee explores volunteer trail maintenance with town manager; liability waiver noted

Tom Wellman told the Kennebunk Climate Action Committee he had spoken with Town Manager Bryan Laverriere about organizing volunteers to assist with town trail maintenance.
Committee members said volunteers would need to sign waivers so the town is not liable for injuries. The group discussed working with the Kennebunk Land Trust and the Appalachian Mountain Club to develop maintenance schedules and to coordinate storm cleanup. Members also identified Leigh Hallett, director of the Maine Trails Coalition, as an additional resource for planning and volunteer coordination.
The committee did not formalize a volunteer program during the Feb. 17 meeting; members asked participants to follow up with partner organizations and to return with a proposed maintenance strategy and any required liability or volunteer paperwork.
