Athens-Clarke County honors Public Works Week, names six Employees of the Year

Mayor Girtz opened a special called session of the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County on May 20, 2026, by recognizing Public Works Week and thanking employees across the county’s public services for their work.
He announced this year’s Employees of the Year from county departments: Transit — Nicole Huff; Public Utilities — Dustin Bailey; Transportation and Public Works — Johnny Sims; Solid Waste — Antonio “Tony” Hull; Central Services — Jon Michael Jones; and Leisure Services Maintenance — Terrance Lett. Mayor Girtz said the awards are presented annually at a luncheon that highlights staff dedication and leadership in public service.
The recognition took place at the start of a special called session held at City Hall. The meeting then moved into its advertised business, including a public hearing on the proposed FY27 budget and the first of three Taxpayer Bill of Rights hearings required by the Georgia General Assembly in 1999.
The session adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
