The board approved an increased size variance to allow a 2,080-square-foot accessory building where the code limit is 1,400 square feet, and a height variance that specifies a wall height of 16 feet, a roof peak of 26 feet and a garage door height of 12 feet. Mayor Mockus moved to approve the application and Mr. Mike McFarland seconded; members Stoner, McFarland, Jacobs, Mayor Mockus and Wolf voted in favor.
Applicant Brian Samsal told the board he wants the building to "store additional vehicles and not have them stored in his current driveway," and that the structure would accommodate a boat and a camper. Board members asked for clarifications about the building footprint and driveway connection; Mr. Samsal confirmed the structure is 30 by 60 feet and that the driveway will connect to his existing driveway. Mr. McFarland asked whether a hard-surface driveway would be installed; Mr. Samsal said yes, "once the weather is permitting."
Village zoning attorney Jennifer Huber asked the board to include precise variance language detailing a 16-foot wall height, 26-foot peak height and 12-foot garage door to ensure the relief meets the accessory-structure ordinance.
The board completed the public hearing and took the formal vote later in the meeting. No visitor comments were recorded on the application. The vote record in the meeting minutes shows the motion passed unanimously.
