The North Miami Community Schools Board of School Trustees voted Dec. 16 to approve a 2026 insurance renewal and to revise professional development days on two upcoming school-year calendars.
The board approved a proposal to renew property, liability, fleet, cyber and workers compensation insurance through broker McGriff for a total cost of $116,073. Jeff Working moved the insurance renewal and David Floyd seconded; the motion carried 5-0, with all five members present voting in favor.
Separately, the board approved two calendar revisions. For the 2025–26 school year the board moved a scheduled professional development day from Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, to Monday, Feb. 9, 2026. For the 2026–27 calendar the board moved the scheduled professional development day from Monday, Feb. 1, 2027, to Monday, Feb. 8, 2027. David Floyd moved the first calendar change; Sam Finnegan seconded both calendar motions and each carried 5-0.
Board members and the superintendent framed both votes as routine operational matters. Kenneth Hanson provided related updates earlier in the meeting, noting district work on snow-day planning and on adjustments tied to recent state legislative changes described as "SEA 1" impacts in Mr. Hanson’s report. The board also discussed transportation staffing and thanked maintenance and transportation staff for ongoing work.
Next procedural steps: the approved insurance renewal will be reflected in fiscal-year planning; calendar changes will be posted to the district schedule. The board set its next regular meeting for Jan. 20, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the district office.
