Hebron accepts police chief Larry Brooks’s resignation after 31 years of service

Police Chief Larry Brooks told the Village of Hebron Council on Feb. 12 that he will retire after 31 years with the Hebron Police Department.

"I graduated from the police academy in 1994 and I have been with the Hebron Police Department ever since, for a total of 31 years of service," Brooks said. He said he began part time and moved to full‑time status in 2000 and called it "an incredible job."

Mayor Valerie Mockus and councilmembers thanked Brooks for his service. Mockus said the village has been fortunate to have his "tenacity, and providing a clear, concise level of support for the village," and that they appreciate his work and willingness to support new initiatives.

Councilmember Kenney Nauer moved to accept Brooks’s letter of resignation; the motion was seconded by Annelle Porter. "A roll call vote was taken with all Councilmembers present voting in favor," and the resignation was accepted.

The acceptance was a formal council action; no details about Brooks’s official last day or a replacement plan were provided during the meeting. Council did not take additional personnel actions in open session during this meeting. The council proceeded to other agenda items following the vote.

Next steps: the council will handle any required personnel and transition matters in accordance with village policy and applicable Ohio law, and the village administration will update the public as arrangements are finalized.
