The North Miami Community Schools board on Oct. 14 approved a set of personnel actions, including a resignation, an approved leave of absence and athletic appointments.
The board accepted the resignation of Byron Sweet from his volunteer boys wrestling coach role; the motion was made by Sam Finnegan and seconded by Amy Eckrote and carried 5-0. The board also approved a maternity leave of absence for elementary teacher Haleigh Deardorff, effective from February through the end of March (as presented). That motion was made by Amy Eckrote, seconded by Jeff Working, and carried 5-0.
In hiring actions, the board approved Derek Haynes as the 6th-grade boys basketball coach and approved Kayla Rudd for winter strength and conditioning duties. Motion made by Stan Hudson, seconded by Sam Finnegan; motion carried 5-0.
Why it matters: These routine personnel decisions affect staffing for instruction and extracurricular programs and reflect board oversight of hires, leaves and volunteer positions.
The board also recorded that there were no certified or non-certified new staff recommendations beyond the listed athletic appointments.
