Greencastle school board approves tech buyback, contracts, travel and Early Literacy grant; honors students

At its Dec. 16 meeting the Greencastle Community School Corporation Board approved a package of routine items — including a K–12 tech buyback for 440 iPads, therapy contracts and an Early Literacy Achievement Grant resolution — and recognized five Students of the Month.
The Greencastle Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees met Dec. 16 and approved a slate of routine agenda items, including personnel actions, contracts, travel, donations and a resolution supporting an Early Literacy Achievement Grant.
Superintendent Jeff Gibboney recommended adding the Early Literacy Achievement Grant resolution to the agenda; the board approved that agenda change, and later approved the resolution by unanimous vote. The board also approved the consent agenda, which included the Nov. 25 regular meeting minutes, allowance of claims (checks numbered in listed ranges) and the November financial reports presented by Finance Director Kellie Romer.
On personnel matters, the board accepted a retirement notice from Amy Weliever, Media Technology Teacher at Greencastle Middle School, effective Jan. 6, 2025, and approved a roster of classified transfers and hires including multiple substitute-to-full-time bus-driver transfers, several instructional-assistant hires and extracurricular appointments (coaching and student lifeguard positions). A compensation adjustment for Toni Smith (maintenance painter) effective Dec. 6, 2024, was also approved.
On procurement and contracts, the board approved a K–12 Tech Buyback Proposal to purchase 440 sixth-generation iPads at a credit of $55 per working device. The board also approved the 2024–2025 ProCare Therapy contract for physical therapist Odell Anderson and a memorandum of understanding with Synergy Therapy and Counseling LLC to provide behavioral health services.
Financial and operational approvals included permission to pay late-arriving 2024 invoices and a resolution authorizing a deposit account with Everwise Credit Union or First National Bank. The board accepted multiple donations (including a $500 Putnam County Darrell Wiatt Family Philanthropy essay-contest award to Greencastle Middle School; $634 from Bethel Baptist Church to GHS FCA; and gifts to GHS/GMS FFA) and noted one donation listing that will be corrected on the January agenda.
The board approved a Greencastle Middle School 2026 Global Travel Program proposal to Italy through Educational Tours and completed the second reading and approval of Neola policies 2460 and 2460.02.
The meeting included student recognitions: Students of the Month Kaylee Ames (Greencastle High School), Evelyn Ryan (Greencastle Middle School), McKinleigh Horn (Tzouanakis Intermediate), Bailey Mountz (Deer Meadow Primary) and Bennett Ferris (Ridpath Primary). Board President Ed Wilson offered closing thanks and the meeting adjourned at 6:38 p.m.
