Sullivan Select Board to advertise part-time maintenance hire, orders seasonal weight-limit signs and hears parks and public comments

The Sullivan Select Board on Feb. 17 directed the Town Manager to begin advertising and interviewing in March for a budgeted part-time maintenance person and set several operational items for follow-up.
Selectman Gregory Ring said he will post seasonal weight-limit signs on town roads on March 1, 2026, and the board asked the Town Manager to contact Maine Weights & Measures about enforcement practices and the potential for a permanent weight-limit sign on Punkinville Road. Ring also said he would attempt a temporary hot-top repair at Tucker Mountain Road culvert once weather permits.
Bonnie Sparks, representing Parks and Recreation, submitted a written report and asked that unspent budgeted funds be moved to a reserve to prioritize repairs to the Granite Garden at Sumner Memorial Park and to support a new skatepark. Parks & Rec also requested that rental tents at Sumner Park be put up May 1, 2026; the board saw no objection and suggested a Parks & Rec representative contact the vendor to schedule installation.
During public comment Sharon Barron asked for an update on a condemned property on U.S. Highway 1 and raised concerns about livestock roaming at large; the board requested a report from the animal control officer. John Keenan offered to act as a constable to help enforce the weight-limit signs, made suggestions about tree-cutting notice wording and volunteered to serve on the Budget Committee.
Norman Bamford moved the board into executive session under 1 M.R.S.A. §405(6)(F) to discuss confidential records; the minutes record the board entering executive session at 7:15 p.m. and exiting at 7:25 p.m. The board decided not to proceed with the matter discussed until more information is provided. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
The action-item list recorded at the meeting contains several follow-ups, including determining town-owned property at the tennis court complex, getting quotes to remove a town-owned mobile home on Moose Lane, arranging a structural engineer review for the fire department, street-sign work and continued EMS contract discussions.
