A string of resident complaints about Long Island Rail Road trackwork prompted village officials to request a meeting with MTA management and to press for noise‑monitoring data from federal agencies.
Trustee Rainer Burger described trackwork that occurred from Friday night, Aug. 9, through Monday morning, Aug. 12. He said residents reported idling trucks, workers not using porta‑potties, loud behavior and profanity. The mayor and Trustee Burger have reached out to MTA management and requested that site managers and foremen attend a meeting; a date is to be determined.
Separately, minutes note that the Town of Hempstead attorney filed a FOIL request with the Federal Aviation Administration seeking raw data from noise monitors placed along JFK arrival and departure routes; the minutes state that the Port Authority and FAA had delayed delivery of reports and that Town officials could pursue legal action if data are not provided. Trustee Burger also said TVASNAC (a town noise advisory committee) is pressuring the Port Authority and FAA on runway use and timing to reduce flights over local communities.
The board recorded no formal vote on the LIRR complaints. Village staff said they will continue to coordinate with the MTA and town agencies and will notify residents of meeting details when scheduled.
