Village hears update on water‑treatment upgrades for Well 57A and Station 40

Trustee Rainer Burger reported the Water Authority is ordering a reactor for Well 57A to restore capacity to 100% (currently at ~73%); NYSDOH approved a third-phase reactor for Station 57, scheduled to arrive mid‑December, and design work for Well 40/40A (two AOP reactors and four GAC vessels) is underway with physical work expected to start in late September 2024.
At the Aug. 15 meeting, Trustee Rainer Burger updated the board on Water Authority work intended to address emerging contaminants and restore well capacity.
Burger reported that Well 57A is operating at about 73% of capacity and that the Water Authority has ordered a new reactor to return the well to full capacity. He said the New York State Department of Health has approved a third phase of the Station 57 additional reactor, that bid specifications are nearly complete, and that the reactor is scheduled to arrive in mid‑December.
Design and submittals for Well 40 and 40A remain in process; planned work includes installing two advanced oxidation process (AOP) reactors and four granular activated carbon (GAC) vessels to treat emerging contaminants. Trustee Burger said physical work is scheduled to start in late September 2024.
The board did not take a vote on funding or contracts for these installations during the Aug. 15 meeting. Trustee Burger’s report provided schedule and scope details; further procurement steps and construction timelines will be set by the Water Authority and reported back to the village.
