The Essex Economic Development Commission voted on June 10 to hold a Meet & Greet breakfast on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 7:45 to 9 a.m., with an RSVP cutoff of 100 to match available seating.
The commission approved a short agenda: networking from 7:45–8:00 a.m.; EDC introductions and mission statement at 8:00–8:05 a.m.; a State of the Town segment (the commission will ask Carey Duques if she wishes to present) from 8:05–8:15 a.m.; and an open “What’s on your mind?” segment from 8:15–9:00 a.m. The commission plans to solicit topics in advance; if no participants volunteer, EDC members will ask questions to prompt discussion.
Logistics recorded at the meeting: A Finnegan provided a Town of Essex mailing list to Chairman Brian Weinstein for invitations; Norm Needleman offered to provide coffee and refreshments; Alyson will set up the auditorium. The announcement will be distributed via the town newsletter, the Valley Courier, and the town website; the commission also agreed to invite the Board of Trade and the Ivoryton Alliance and to send invites through Constant Contact.
Work items assigned in advance of the July 8 meeting include notifying Carey Duques of details, confirming whether she will deliver the State of the Town, consulting Shoreline Publishing about coverage, drafting the Constant Contact invite, completing a written work plan, and producing business cards. The commission decided to defer visiting businesses until after the breakfast.
The commission adjourned at approximately 4:52 p.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for July 8, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.
