Board certifies support for two federal grant-related items, enters executive session

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners approved two certifications related to federal and regional grant matters and briefly met in executive session during its June 18 staff meeting.
Grant certifications: Sara Sump informed the Board the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is pursuing a BJA FY25 Office of Justice Programs Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative grant worth more than $500,000 to fund an additional crime analyst position for four years and requested the Board’s certification of county support. Commissioner Sean Flowerday moved to approve Item 7A and Commissioner Rick Vest seconded; Flowerday, Schulte, Vest and Chair Christa Yoakum voted yes and the motion carried 4-0 (Vice Chair Chelsea Johnson absent).
Separately, the Board approved the Region 5 match certification document by a 4-0 vote on a motion by Commissioner Vest, seconded by Commissioner Flowerday.
Executive session: The Board voted to enter an executive session at 9:55 a.m. for union negotiations, pending litigation and legal advice (motion by Vest; second by Flowerday) and voted to exit the executive session at 10:40 a.m.; votes to enter and exit were recorded 4-0 with Johnson absent. Chair Yoakum restated the purposes for the executive session before entering.
