Enumclaw School Board approves three resolutions, construction contract and names new elementary school 'Evergreen Trail Blazers'

The Enumclaw School Board voted on May 18 to approve a package of governance actions including three resolutions, a construction oversight contract and the official name and mascot for a new elementary school.

The board approved Resolution 1168, a 180‑school‑day waiver for transitional kindergarten that replaces nine traditional classroom days with student‑led conferences and teacher collaboration to align with the ECAP program, and Resolution 1169, a 180‑school‑day waiver for Enumclaw High School (grades 10–12) intended to allow incoming ninth‑graders a full day on campus. The board also approved a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) amendment — labeled Resolution 1170 in the agenda — and authorized related contract action. Chair called the package to a voice vote after a motion and a second; the chair recorded an affirmative voice vote and no opposition.

Director Fisher moved to approve the resolutions and the GMP authorization, saying, "I would like to make a motion to name elementary school number 6 and the mascot the Evergreen Trail Blazers," during the naming discussion; the motion to adopt the three resolutions was made and seconded and passed by voice vote.

The board also approved a special inspections and testing contract for a construction project and approved payroll and vouchers, all by motion and voice votes. The meeting record shows the consent agenda passed and included personnel items (hires, resignations and a noted departure of the Black Diamond Elementary principal), a proposed middle‑school ELA curriculum adoption, a list of surplus district property, and the proposed fee schedule for the 2026–27 school year.

On the school‑naming item, the board noted a community committee had reviewed more than 250 suggested names. Director Fisher formally moved to name Elementary School 6 the "Evergreen Trail Blazers;" the motion was seconded and adopted by voice vote.

Why it matters: The waivers change how instructional days will be counted and schedule teacher collaboration and student‑led conferences in ways the district said will align with the ECAP program. The GMP amendment and the inspections contract are steps in construction oversight and budget execution for district building projects. Naming the new elementary school reflects a community selection process the board said included broad input.
