Henniker budget advisory committee hands in unanimous resignation, saying it has become redundant

A member of the Budget Advisory Committee told the Board of Selectmen on Oct. 29 that the committee had voted unanimously to resign effective immediately, arguing the volunteer advisory body has not been able to influence town budgets and has become redundant.
The speaker, representing the committee during the public-comment period, read a prepared letter saying the committee has performed a useful audit function but lacks the statutory authority to effect change and that, after reviewing eight years of presentations, “not a single recommendation has ever been implemented.” The letter recommended the board continue reviewing employee benefits, merit and COLA programs but said committee members would step down to focus time on other civic work.
The board discussed whether to take up the issue immediately or post it for a future meeting; several members recommended scheduling a posted agenda item for the next regular meeting on Nov. 19 so the matter can be handled in open session.
The resignation was announced during the public-comment portion of the selectmen’s meeting; no formal vote on next steps was taken that night.
