The City of Statham mayor and council unanimously approved a package of local rate and service agreements at their Aug. 20 regular meeting.
Councilmember Penn moved to adopt updated City of Statham water and sewer tap fees, including changes to water rates, sewer rates and deposit requirements for homeowners, renters and businesses, with the new fees set to take effect Oct. 1, 2024; Councilmember Bogenrieder seconded the motion, and the council voted 5-0 to approve it. The action was listed on the agenda under Voting Items.
In the same session the council voted 5-0 to immediately approve revised rental fees for Statham Sporting Fields after Councilmember Patterson made the motion and Councilmember Penn seconded. The council also approved an intergovernmental agreement for sewer treatment service by a 5-0 vote; Councilmember Penn made the motion and Councilmember Burnette seconded.
The meeting included an executive session held under Georgia Code section 50-14-2(1) "pursuant to the attorney-client privilege" for consultation on pending or potential litigation. After returning to open session, Councilmember Penn moved to approve paragraphs 1, 2, 4, 5, 11–14, 16 and 17 of the proposed Service Delivery Strategy Mediation Agreement and to permit any variation of the remaining paragraphs once agreed to by the City of Winder and Barrow County; Councilmember Terilli seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
Mayor Krause called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.; the meeting adjourned at 6:53 p.m. Attendance recorded Mayor Krause and Councilmembers Terilli, Bogenrieder, Patterson, Penn and Burnette. City Attorney Jody Campbell, City Administrator Cheryl Venable, City Clerk Nicole Sapp and Director of Public Works Brett Day were listed as present.
The decisions finalize the fee schedule change with an explicit effective date (Oct. 1, 2024) and authorize the city to proceed with the intergovernmental sewer-treatment arrangement and the specified mediation-agreement paragraphs; the transcript records no dissenting votes. Details such as the dollar amounts for the water and sewer tap fees and the specific financial or operational terms of the intergovernmental agreement were not specified in the meeting transcript and are therefore not reported here. The council also approved amendments and prior meeting minutes during the session.
