Statham council approves multiple bids, tables water and sewer tap-fee changes

The Statham City Council voted July 16 to award several construction and roofing contracts, approve the city's 2024 audit for the mayor to sign and postpone consideration of proposed water and sewer tap fee changes until Aug. 6.

At the Statham Community Center, Mayor Krause called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the council moved through a slate of procurement items and an audit authorization. Councilmembers Terilli, Bogenrieder, Patterson, Penn and Burnette were present; City Administrator Cheryl Venable and City Clerk Nicole Sapp were also in attendance and City Attorney Jody Campbell participated by phone.

Councilmember Bogenrieder moved to table agenda item 1, a proposal addressing water rates, sewer rates and deposit requirements for homeowners, renters and businesses; Councilmember Terilli seconded. The council voted unanimously to move the item to the Aug. 6 public hearing and work session for further consideration.

On contract awards, the council unanimously approved a bid to Trim-Co Exteriors, Inc. for metal skirting at Statham City Hall, 327 Jefferson Street, after a motion by Councilmember Patterson and a second by Councilmember Burnette.

The council approved a roofing contract for the Hillman-Rainwater Park Community Building, 668 Park Street, awarding the project to ProShield Roofing. Councilmember Terilli moved the award and Councilmember Bogenrieder seconded; Councilmember Patterson abstained and the motion carried with four yes votes and one abstention.

For a remodel at the Robert Bridges Park building, 1348 Furr Lane, the council voted 4-1 to award the bid to Homebase Construction. Councilmember Penn moved the approval, Councilmember Patterson seconded, and Councilmember Bogenrieder recorded the lone no vote.

The council also approved a separate remodel contract for Statham City Hall, 327 Jefferson Street, awarding that project to Homebase Construction. Councilmember Burnette moved the motion, Councilmember Penn seconded, and the measure passed 3-2 with Councilmembers Terilli and Bogenrieder opposed.

Councilmember Patterson moved and Councilmember Penn seconded a motion authorizing Mayor Krause to sign the Bates & Carter 2024 audit; the council approved the authorization unanimously. No contract amounts or budget line-item details were provided in the meeting record.

City Attorney Jody Campbell confirmed that an executive session was unnecessary, and the council adjourned at 6:48 p.m.
