Poseyville — The Town Council on Nov. 12 voted to shift routine maintenance of the town storm siren to Posey County Emergency Management, authorized service and deferred billing for the Volunteer Fire Department’s Rescue Truck, and approved a contract with CHA Services to inspect utilities for the Farmington Ridge development.
Council President Justin Rutledge presented the Posey County Storm Siren Agreement and, after discussion about maintenance responsibilities and battery-backup, the Council approved the county to assume full maintenance. Rutledge said he will follow up with county emergency management to confirm whether battery-backup is included in the agreement.
Public comment at the meeting flagged immediate safety concerns. Steve Collins, speaking on behalf of the Poseyville Volunteer Fire Department, presented photographs and told the Council several Rescue Truck components were not functioning and that the vehicle had not been serviced in “more than three years.” Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Droege, who was present, told the Council that “the Rescue Truck is already scheduled for service” and confirmed the department’s Engine had recently been serviced. The Council approved the Rescue Truck service and the yearly payments to volunteer firefighters; the purchase of hazmat supplies was also approved.
Utility Manager Jeremy Farrar briefed the Council on a gas-line relocation required after a parking-lot renovation removed cover from a gas line in a county right-of-way. Farrar said USDI, the town’s gas service provider, required the line be moved across Frontage Road within the town easement. He said USDI was on-site one day and the final bill may be less than an initial $10,000 estimate. The Council discussed ways to avoid similar unplanned costs, and Farrar reiterated that town employees must attend gas utility work to “watch and protect.”
On development oversight, Town Attorney William Bender and Farrar discussed timing of annexation for the Farmington Ridge project and the potential for jurisdiction by the Posey County Regional Sewer District if annexation does not occur. Given CHA Services’ prior inspection work, the Council voted to contract CHA to inspect wastewater, stormwater, gas and streets for the project.
Personnel and routine municipal business also moved forward. Clerk-Treasurer Jodie Rankin presented a 2026 Anthem health insurance renewal showing a 9.94% premium increase; the Council voted to renew the current plan. The Council approved routine fiscal items including minutes from the Oct. 15 meeting, the Claims Docket, Payroll Allowance Docket and October bank reconciliations. The Community Center’s malfunctioning commercial stove was declared surplus and the Council approved purchasing two replacement gas stoves for $1,242.00 total.
The Council set its next meeting for Dec. 9, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
