Pima council approves two ordinances, adopts magistrate court fee schedule

The Pima Town Council unanimously approved two ordinances and adopted a magistrate court fee schedule at its April 8 regular meeting.
Councilmember Lucas Hoopes moved to approve Ordinance 2025-08, which adds minor land-division provisions to the Town Code; Councilmember Cade Bryce seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Councilmember Bryce then moved to approve Ordinance 2025-09, establishing street standards; Hoopes seconded and the council approved it unanimously.
Manager Vernon Batty told the council the changes — which Public Works Director Evan Stringfellow said are intended to prevent "wildcat subdivisions" — will become part of town code. "Adding this information to our Town Code will prevent wildcat subdivisions," Stringfellow said in the meeting.
The council also approved Ordinance 2025-10 to mandate local magistrate court fees. Batty explained Pima's magistrate court is combined with Thatcher and Safford and managed in Thatcher, and that the towns need a local fee schedule; Councilmember Hoopes moved the ordinance, Councilmember Georgia Luster seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

The council met in executive session later in the meeting to receive legal advice on pending litigation and returned to open session to authorize Manager Vernon Batty to carry out the direction given in that session. The meeting adjourned at 8:43 p.m.
