Police Chief Steve Scott summarized Ambriz’s background, saying Ambriz is a native of Broken Bow, graduated from Ansley Public Schools and previously worked at Hall County Corrections in Grand Island; Chief Scott said Ambriz will attend the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center academy and is anticipated to graduate in December 2025.
Ambriz introduced himself and his family to those in attendance, and Chief Scott administered the officer’s oath. Mayor Rod Sonnichsen welcomed Ambriz and said the appointment brings the Broken Bow Police Department to full staff.
The appointment followed the council’s approval of the consent agenda earlier in the meeting. No additional actions related to the hire—such as assignment or probation terms—were recorded in the meeting minutes.
Mayor Sonnichsen also noted the department expects three officers to graduate from academy sessions in August and December, which officials said will affect staff availability. The council adjourned at 6:16 p.m.
