The Sunman Town Council on a unanimous voice action adopted Resolution 2026-02, approving an emergency contingency plan for the town's public water system and authorizing staff to submit the plan to the Department of Environmental Management.
The plan, drawn from regional alliance templates, was presented as a comprehensive set of protocols for response to natural or man-made disasters and includes procedures for emergency expenditures and operational approvals. A council speaker said the document had been reviewed by Connor and Brett and that the alliance prepared much of the draft at no charge to the town.
Council members designated February of each year for staff to review and, if needed, update the plan. They also agreed to keep signed originals and make copies available at the marshal's office, town hall, the wellfield and in town vehicles so emergency responders can access the guidance quickly. "I would go ahead and email that to EMA also," a staff member said regarding state submission.
A motion to adopt the resolution was made, seconded and approved. Council directed staff to arrange signatures and public copies and to coordinate submission to the Department of Environmental Management as required.
The adoption establishes an annual update cadence and places copies of the plan at specified municipal locations; staff said they will follow up with the state agency and confirm the planned distribution of printed copies.
