Barcelona Harbor closed for season; dredging deferred to 2027 as East Route 5 water work advances

Barcelona Harbor: the board noted the harbor is closed for the season and that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will not perform dredging in 2026; dredging has been scheduled for 2027. The board also recorded that soundings will be conducted in the harbor. Supervisor Martha R. Bills asked the Town Board harbor committee to meet April 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Supervisor's office to discuss the 2026 season.
East Route 5 Water Benefit District No. 2: the board received a project update that monthly project meetings have been held, the contractor will pressure-test the water line, and work will begin in Hawthorne as weather permits; the project engineer was unable to attend the April meeting. Resolution No. 28 authorized payment and Form E-No. 9 certification for Rural Development budget/tabulation work related to the project.
Other local projects: the Highway Department will place additional gravel on Welch Trail; minutes note an invoice to County Line Stone Co., Inc. for crusher run (to be reimbursed by the county). The board also reported waiting for one easement agreement required for the Barcelona Gateway project. The Town previously received $22,000 from the Chautauqua County IDA toward the Barcelona Gateway grant (noted in budget text).
Next steps: harbor committee and staff will proceed with soundings and project tasks; the East Route 5 project is moving toward in-field testing and construction as conditions permit.
