Bolton Fire Commission hears staffing update and fire marshal lists recent inspections

The Bolton Fire Commission on July 28 approved the June 23, 2025 meeting minutes with an amendment and discussed the status of paid staffing for the Bolton Volunteer Fire Department.
Commissioner Robert Langton moved to approve the minutes with the amendment; Commissioner Chris Moquin seconded. Langton asked about the status of paid personnel proposed to meet the department’s staffing needs. Chief Dixon replied that “progress is being made regarding the Strategic Plan,” that there are monies in the budget and that the town intends to go out to bid for related services; the minutes do not specify dollar amounts or a procurement timeline.
Fire Marshal Bill Call presented his report, noting recent activity that included the installation of a senior Knox Box on Mount Sumner Drive, a meeting with the new school superintendent, a brief vacation (July 20–26), receipt of a State FEIU report relating to the Dean Cabinetry fire (the acronym is recorded in the minutes but not expanded), and a list of re-inspections and scheduled inspections at local businesses and facilities including Valero gas station, Georgina’s Restaurant, the Bolton Post Office, 188 Boston Turnpike apartments, Bolton Kennels, Mitchell Fuel and Dollar General.
No bills were presented for payment. The deputy fire marshal gave no report. The commission noted there will be no meeting in August and reconvenes on Sept. 22, 2025. Commissioners moved to adjourn at 7:16 p.m.; the motion passed unanimously.
